uttam, a union
uttam was founded in 1979 to meet the obvious need for injured workers to share their reality, to get together, to organize, to make their voices heard, and to claim their rights.
uttam is a nonprofit organization that consists primarily of non-unionized workers who are victims of work accidents and occupational diseases in the Greater Montréal (Montréal, Montérégie, Laval, Laurentides and Lanaudière).
uttam’s force is also to join with other organizations, such as other injured worker’s association and labor unions, to better promote the interests of injured workers.
Collectively, we strive to have the rights of injured workers recognized in the laws and in the facts through various pressure, reflection and information activities. |
uttam, a ressource
At uttam, a team of counselors is available to injured workers to provide the support required for settling their cases.
Through the telephone service and individual meetings, injured workers receive information on their rights and help for dealing with the CSST.
The reference service allows those needing representation before the appeal tribunals to be brought into contact with lawyers that understand the work-related injury problem.
Also, upon request by interested organizations (unions, community groups, etc.), uttam offers custom training sessions on the different aspects of the Act respecting industrial accidents and occupational diseases (claim procedure, medical angle of a file, etc.). |
uttam, a force
uttam belongs to its members and encourages participation of all wishing to contribute to the collective effort aimed at improving workers’ life conditions.
During the annual general meeting, members decide what direction the organization will take. They elect their board of directors which includes several injured workers.
Also, members are invited to participate in the work of different committees in which each can make a contribution to uttam’s activities.
uttam also publishes a bulletin. Members can voice their opinions and relate their personal experiences.
It is moreover a valuable information tool on matters pertaining to the law, the practices of the CSST, and social realities.
Finally, uttam organizes different training, information, reflection and mobilization activities.
These activities enable all those involved in the subject of work-related injuries to pool their experiences and draw common strategies. |
